Drop-shipping with ShipStation

Using a dropshipper with ShipStation. Export orders in a CSV. Provide a dropshipper restricted access to your account.

If you use a fulfilment provider other than FBA or Shipwire, or if you drop-ship your products, and would still like to manage your shipments in ShipStation, you can use one of two methods:

  • Export order data to a CSV to upload or email to your fulfilment provider or drop-shipper.

You can then use the Mark as Shipped feature when you receive the shipment service and tracking information back from your fulfilment provider.

  • Create a restricted login to your ShipStation account for your fulfilment provider or drop-shipper.

A restricted login limits the user to view only the orders assigned to them. The user can then log in and process orders directly in ShipStation without viewing or affecting any orders not intended for that provider.

If you use FBA or Shipwire to fulfill your orders, review the Send Orders to Fulfilment article instead.

Export Orders as CSV

If you do not wish to provide your drop-shipper access to your ShipStation account, or if their workflow requires a CSV with a list of the orders they fulfill for you (perhaps because they generate labels outside of ShipStation), use the following method:

  1. Create a tag for the products fulfilled by your provider.

  2. Use a filter to display only orders that contain this tag.

  3. Export the orders to a CSV file.

Other Actions dropdown menu. Red box highlights Export Orders option

You can then email the exported file to your drop shipper, or upload it into their preferred portal.

Once your drop-shipper has shipped these orders and sent you the tracking information, you can then mark the orders as shipped so they move to the Shipped status, and the tracking information uploads into ShipStation. ShipStation will then notify the selling channel these orders have shipped.

Create a Restricted User

You can provide your drop-shipper access to your ShipStation account by creating a user login for them that is restricted to see only the orders you assign to them. Your drop-shipper will log in to your account under their user and use your ShipStation account to create and print labels for the orders they fulfill.

You'll then want to assign orders to the new user you just created. Your drop-shipper can now login to your ShipStation account to view and ship the orders they need to process.

Assign Orders with Automation Rules

Use Automation Rules to automatically assign orders to your drop-shipper user by tagging the drop-shipped products and using the tag as the rule criteria.
