Does ShipStation support DDP?

Yes, ShipStation does support DDP (Delivered Duty Paid). However, not all carriers and services allow you to select DDP for your international shipments. This means the availability of the option in ShipStation is dependent on configuring your shipment with a supported service. Review the workflow guide on how to Create DDP Labels.

DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid. A DDP shipment is a shipment where the shipper is responsible for paying any duties, taxes, and/or fees assessed on the shipment by the customs authority when it enters its destination country.

In ShipStation, this setting is located in the Other Shipping Options section and is called Bill duties and taxes to payor of shipping charges.

Please note: If you change the language settings to a language other than English (US & CA), the text for this option will read Delivered Duty Paid (DDP).

How is a DDP fee billed to my account?

The method of billing may differ depending on your carrier.

When shipping with a ShipStation Carrier, the fee will be deducted from your ShipStation Balance as an adjustment after the shipment has been delivered. The one exception to this is when you choose the pre-paid DDP option when shipping USPS from the US to Canada. In this case, you'll be charged the flat DDP fee when you create the label (both label fee and DDP fee will be deducted from your ShipStation Balance).

When shipping from one of your connected carrier accounts, any duties, taxes, and/or fees applicable to the shipment could be added to your monthly carrier invoice or you may be contacted by the carrier to be billed separately.

If you are unsure how your carrier bills you for DDP shipments, contact your account manager for details.

Carriers that Support DDP

The following carriers support the Bill duties and taxes to payor of shipping charges option. If this option is not present in the Other Shipping Options section after you have selected a service, this means that the carrier does not support DDP.

US Carriers:

  • DHL Express (direct integration only, DHL from ShipStation does not support DDP)

  • FedEx

  • UPS

  • UPS from ShipStation

  • USPS (limited to First-Class Mail International, Priority Mail International, and Priority Mail Express International from the US to Canada only for shipments under 4 lbs).

For USPS international shipments to Canada, use the Duties/Taxes drop-down menu to pre-pay duties instead of the Bill Duties to Payor option.

  • GlobalPost Plus Smartsaver (subject to eligibility)

GP+ is DDP by default, so there is no need to enable the Bill Duties to Payor/DDP option in ShipStation. However, your Stamps.com account must first be enabled for GP+. Contact Stamps.com to inquire about eligibility and enable on your account.
